-The North was able to claim victory after using the same tactics the south used at
Fredricksburg by fighting the south from the higher ground.

How did Lincoln’s death effect US?

It was the first and only presidential assassination in the US, and all the members who were involved in any way with the conspiracy were executed.

Why did the North win the war?

Sherman set fire to anything in his path and took the Confederate Army head on which the South could not handle. It turned into total war.

How was the economy effected by the war/

The economy was effected by the war because the burnt and pillaged cities.

How was society effected by the war?

Since the war had turned into a total war, many citizens of the south lost everything due to the pillaging and burning of their towns.

-When Sherman burned and pillaged towns, the citizens and military had to evacuate, so he kept
using this tactic to push back the Confederate troops.

General Sherman,

Your ruthless tactics are no longer just effecting our military force but the citizens of the Confederacy as well. Many of the citizens are left homeless and with no posessions but the clothes on their back. Please reconsider the use of these tactics.

    Grant uses sieges and total war against the confederate army to win the war.

    Describe how Grant takes it to Lee:

    Grant took control of the Western Army and fought many brutal battles with Lee which inflected heavy losses on both sides of the war.

    Describe Sherman’s March to the Sea:

    Sherman was unstoppable and marched down to Georgia, looted, pillaged, and burned everything in his path.

    Describe the Battle of Petersburg:

    Grant pushed Lee to Petersburg which was about 20 miles south of the capitol, and Lee ordered a retreat of Petersburg which left Richmond, the capital of the Confederate States of America, defenseless and it was burned.

    Describe Lee’s surrender:

    Lee wanted to join his army with confederate troops in North Carolina, but troops became trapped at Appomattox Court House forcing Lee to surrender.

    Describe the death of Lincoln:

    Lincoln was killed two days after the surrender by John Wilkes Booth during a play at Fords Theater in Washington DC. Wilkes was killed in a manhunt afterward.
